I'm Even More of a Loser in Japan

You know, there are a lot of bad things about being unemployed: the lack of money, the feeling of uselessness, the embarrassment of having to write "unemployed" on every form or questionnaire ever. But at least I take comfort in knowing that, since I don't have a real job, I will probably not die from overwork.

  • haha... i agree... but then again... living is a full-time job in itself... and everybody dies of living... it's inevitable...eventually... so you see, there is no escaping death from overwork... you have to breathe like it or not...

  • Since I've been writing, I work more hours than ever and I find that I feel useful. However, it can be embarrassing yes. The worst part is not having money to do everything you want to do. You have to be creative and find things that don't cost money.

  • I know! Ever since I started doing the writing thing, I find I fall more and more behind on everything, mostly because to make any money at writing you have to work all the friggin' time. And it's funny, because while I have more to do than ever before, I still have to deal with skeptical looks from banks, landlords, and former employers when I tell them I'm a freelance writer. In fact, on most forms, the only options are "Employed" (which requires that an employer be listed) or "Unemployed" (which I usually have to select). Apparently, if you don't work in an office building and you don't have an employer's name to write down, you don't count as being employed?
