News Flash!
I just received an email from the CEO of the PNN, telling me that they'd like to start giving me a monthly stipend to write this blog! They also want to interview me, and I almost laughed out loud when they asked if I could "find the time"-- heck, all I've got is time these days.Oh. My. Goodness!
First of all, thanks to everyone who has been reading and commenting on this blog. You don't know how much it means to me, to think other people are actually paying attention to what I write, even though I'm just one small, unremarkable voice in the ocean of blogging. You guys are the greatest, and I owe you so much!
In the coming weeks, look for more updates, as well as (perhaps) a new section or two. The wedding is coming up, which will mean more high drama; the election season is in full swing, which will provide me with more political fodder; and Adam and I are moving into our first apartment tomorrow, so that will certainly allow for plenty of excitement.
I really needed an emotional boost this week, and you all gave me that. Thanks so much, from the bottom of my unemployed, twenty-something heart.
Have you seen The Dark Knight yet?

I'm so grateful for the appreciation, and pleased at the attention this blog has been getting. So now my daily updates might increase, to twice or even thrice daily. And remember, I welcome comments! I love to talk and commiserate and debate, so let me know what you think!
Thanks for reading, everyone. It's so great to have you here!

Sorry I haven't been updating in the last few days. I've been very sick with a kidney infection.
It's not so bad, really...I have Adam to take care of me! :)

Yay for blogrolls!
So apparently, A New Philosophy is now on Planned Parenthood's blogroll! That's so exciting! This blog has grown so far, so fast, and I have to thank all of you for making that possible. I'm so honored and pleased that so many of you have chosen to read my posts, and even to comment on some of them.
Thanks, dear readers!
EDIT: Also, in honor of our Planned Parenthood friends, I'll be doing a nifty post on contraception issues soon. I'd do it right now, but I'm off to volunteer for Obama-- and will post a report as soon as I'm done!

As I promised I would, I've put all of the articles from Job Hunting into the College v. the Real World section, and consolidated them both under the latter headline. Again, thanks for your patience while I get things organized!New Stuff

To Change or Not to Change
So I've been mulling over some changes to A New Philosophy, including possibly merging Job Hunting and College Life V. the Real World together and even adding a new section. Topics I've been kicking around for the new section include:-Religion and Spirituality. As a preacher's wife, I'll have lots to say about religion, and I enjoy learning about and exploring all sorts of faiths and traditions. I also think spirituality is important to a lot of twenty-somethings today. The down side, of course, would be that religion is a sensitive and explosive topic, and I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings (anymore than I already have in the Politics section, of course).
-Poetry. I'm a poet myself, so I'd put up some of my own work, and then I'd also be scouring the 'net to bring you interesting tidbits from all sorts of writers. It might be nice to get a daily dose of verse, eh?
-Reviews? Would anyone even be interested in this? I like doing book, music, and movie reviews, but there are about a bazillion other blogs that already do this, and do it better than I probably could. Still, pop culture is always fun to read about...
Let me know which one you'd rather read-- and of course, if you have a suggestion for something else you'd like to read about and comment upon instead, please please please let me know!

Congrats, Mr. Mandela!
Just a little shout-out to Nelson Mandela, the president of my old high school's council: good job on being removed from the US terrorist watch list!I myself was removed from that list about two years ago, and interestingly enough, we were both accidentally put on it in the first place!

I'm now a member of Blog Catalog, and for this to work I need to place some sort of link to the catalog's webpage on this blog. But since I really know nothing about html or web design, I can't use any of their cool little widgets and things. So all I can do is say that my blog is listed, and provide the link:http://www.blogcatalog.com/directory/lifestyle
Cereals wrote a post on this, which is how I got the idea. If you didn't see her post, go check Blog Catalog out (and do check out Cereals' blog as well-- she's awesome!)
That is all.

Buckle Up, Kids. It's Going to Be a Bumpy Ride.
Howdy. I'm Philosophy. Yeah, I'm serious. And no, I do not have any siblings named History or Anthropology. It's my given name, so deal with it.I'm twenty-three, and I'm basically going to be writing from the perspective of someone who is about to have everything in her entire world switched around. I'm graduating from college in twelve days, I'm getting married in four months, and I'm desperately trying to find a job (who gives jobs to English majors?!), insurance, a place for my fiance and myself to crash. Being in your twenties-- yeah, sure, it's fun, and there are a lot of good times, but mostly it's one big stress headache. And while there are some wonderful perks to being young (like having a great body, and staying in good health, and not having kids to worry about), I'd take some stability and some breathing room over nice skin and a firm butt any day.
So anyways, I plan to write about a lot of things: politics, the news, the freakish lottery known as job-hunting, the end of college life, the beginning of real life (which seems to be exactly like college life, except with better food and fewer essays), the treats, trials, and truisms of wedding planning, the realities of young marriages, coming to adulthood in the current global situation, maintaining connections and friendships from far away and long ago, family planning, family interactions, domestic and international travel, and...well, bascially anything else that would fall into the catagory of early-twenties experience.

The Democratic Party, as assembled and packaged at its national convention, does not seem especially proud that it is about to become the first major American political party to nominate an African-American to be president.
Last week we reported on a study that showed that self breast exams don't help prevent death from breast cancer in women. The interview generated quite a response from listeners. Several women wrote in to say that they had found cancerous lumps in their own breasts and wouldn't be alive today if not for breast self exams.
Political pundits live for the Democratic and Republican presidential nominating conventions. But when it comes to what political analysts are saying about the Democratic National Convention going on in Denver, viewers aren't always getting an independent assessment of events.
As the summer movie season draws to a close, Morning Edition commentator John Ridley weighs in on what he thinks has been a really bad spell for minorities at the multiplex — both for actors and moviegoers.
A look at one key hour of cable news coverage of the Democratic convention Monday night reveals less shouting from liberal-leaning MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and company, who soft-pedaled conflict among Democrats. Over at Fox News, Bill O'Reilly remained a full-force conservative Factor.

A plea
I'd like to take a moment to beg you, my good reader, to help me, to aid my cause, and to lend your support to justice, goodness, and nobility, by doing one thing: preserving the semicolon. In fact, the next time you write anything-- a letter, a blog entry, an essay-- please, for my sake, punctuate it well. Just because everyone else in modern society is in a tearing hurry DOES NOT MEAN that you must be, as well. Don't be afraid to take a pause, to use a colon or a semicolon or even an em dash. And for heaven's sake, make sure not to forgo the Oxford comma. Please.
Save a semicolon. Save my sanity.
